Who wants 3 million records?

Well this is somewhat interesting. Apparently whoever has the means and motive to collect THREE MILLION vinyl records as well as 300,000 CD’s has decided to sell it all. Half the records have never been listened to, and all are stored safely in a temperature controlled setting in the US. If you are interested, the bid is a little over 3 million US, but previous offers have been much higher, with the seller reputedly turning down 28 million nine years ago.

If you want to bid you have about fifteen minutes from the posting of this blog, so hop to it!

Underbelly

So some supreme court stooge thinks that potential jurors for upcoming underworld trials will not be able to separate dramatisation from fact, and has banned channel Nine’s ‘Underbelly‘ from screening in Victoria. To be honest I was only mildly interested in the series to start with, even with the insane amount of advertising that has taken place over the last couple of months, but I will definitely be downloading it now – surely the forbidden fruit syndrome in full force.

Anyway out of interest I turned on the TV this evening to check what Nine had scheduled instead. I was hoping that they’d have the sense of humour to put on the Godfather, Scarface or something along those lines, but the final choice of The Shawshank Redemption is, in hindsight a very decent replacement – I mean lets be honest, given the recent track record for Australian drama, Melbournians were probably done a favour by the supreme court.

So. The only real question left to be answered now is: what is Nine going to do for the next 12 weeks?

62 today

The late, great Bob Marley would have turned 62 today if it weren’t for his vain refusal to have a malignant toe removed before the cancer matastasised and spread to the rest of his body. He died in 1981, aged just 36, leaving the western world with a taste of reggae music which, during the following 25 years became a significant genre in popular music. So happy birthday Bob, I hope you’ve found your peace.

Admittedly it’s not just tuff gong’s birthday today. Babe Ruth, Eva Braun, Ronald Reagan and Axl Rose (and my uncle Brent) also celebrate on February 6. So Happy Birthday to them too. It’s just a pity none of them made such an indelible impact on popular culture, although could you imagine Eva Braun in a band? Eva und zie death squads?

Brief Kanye update

I just got home and switched on Rage for a bit of pre-sleeping musical stimulation. One of Kanye West’s videos was playing, and it reminded me of a situation on Monday that I filed in the ‘really should blog about’ brain compartment.

Basically, in one of my many mindless rants I was complaining about Kanye’s latest CD – and in particular his sunglasses. At one point I jokingly wrote that every impressionable dickhead with money to burn would find themselves buying stupid venetian blind sunglasses come summer. Guess what I saw during the Big Day Out on Monday? Yep, you guessed it – some tool in venetian sunglasses. The end of days is upon us.

While on the subject (sort of), the BDO was by and large awesome. Although admittedly I had seen most of the acts at some stage in the last few years it was heartily enjoyable and I really, really enjoyed RATM. Especially the throwing of bottles at the dickheads climbing trees and delay stacks. I took a photo (below) showing just what a mass of people on scaffolding looks like, and someone was thankfully recording when that guy up the tiny tree had the flare thrown at him (far off video @ 1:02, closeup video @ 0:05). Dangerous, and potentially deadly, but fuck he deserved it.
