Umkulu here we come

YAY! Last day in Cape Town for the term!

I’m experimenting with google email at the moment, so if your bored or want to brighten my day, drop me a line on dialagranny at gmail dot com. I have 1GB of storage there, and I want to see it full when I check it next, so get cracking!

Oh if you want to know where the hell I’m going, check the Umkulu website. I’m on the 21 day Cape Town to Vic Falls. Should be back on around or about the 23rd of July, but I’ll try and blog sometime on the overlander.

Oh and one last thing. Apparently I haven’t mentioned Tom Ranger nearly enough on this thing, so here. He smells.

thankyou adoring fans… :P

Thanks to all who wished me the best for Saturday. It was nice to land in Joburg, turn on the phone and have 8 messages pop up on the screen, all sent in the hour and a half I had the phone off for. Tres thanks.

Anyway when I have time and want to procrastinate I’ll write up Sabi a little better. Basically we saw everything but Lion, which is kinda like going to going to Paris and not doing the Eiffel Tower, or coming to Cape Town and not seeing Pete (hint hint). Nonetheless, it was awesome, but I’m back in gloriously cold Cape Town, but taking today off due to lack of clean clothes. I reckon it’ll stick as a valid excuse. :P

Anyway as I said, I’ll write later… Toodles.

ugly baby + 19 years

It’s a bit of a shame really. It’s my birthday today and we’re getting evicted from the lodge. Oh well I’ll get over it. We fly back to joburg this arvo and then I go back to Cape Town tomorrow morning while the olds fly on to Vic Falls in Zimbabwe. Should be good fun. Anyway just letting you all know its my birthday today and ONLY DAVE AND MEGAN HAVE MADE THE EFFORT TO MAKE CONTACT WITH ME! Rotten bastards the rest of you.

Week of The Year

Well the last few days have been…. interesting.

Friday night was awesome. Dave, Sarah and I decided that the Drum Cafe, a quaint little hippy hangout in the city would be a good place to spend the evening, and invited Bec out, even though she had duty. She responded unreasonably, as is becoming commonplace now, but after a few people talked to her she aggreed to come out. Apparently she had plans of going to Springbok, however boring and basically CRAP that is. Chasing boys she is. Anyway we ended up about an hour later in a dark room smelling of weed with african drums between our knees. Three hours of a drumming workshop later we emerged, cultured but bruised and battered. 6 days later it still hurts to hit the second joints on all my fingers. Becky then proceeded to Springbok, whereas the rest of us crashed earlyish (~1am). On Saturday Dave, Sair and I decided Table Mountain would be a good idea, but as soon as we got to the start of our hike the weather turned sour, so we decided to go to the aquarium instead. That proved to be R120 to get in, which is too much for any normal student bum, so we went home, beaten but content to bludge.

On Saturday night my folks arrived. They only decided to visit a few weeks ago, but god damn they’ve done it in style. 3 nights at Cape Town’s Mount Nelson hotel (one of the top 20 hotels in the world) while I slept with cockroaches and fed off rats. Fair eh? Anyway Dave and I spent the majority of the time with them. We went to Robben Island for a prison tour on Sunday, the olds went by themselves to the Cape Point NP on Monday while we went to work, and then we all took a township on Tuesday, while Table Mountain remained unconquered and under a thick cloud of fog.

This is where the fun starts. On Wednesday the olds and I jumped on a plane to Johannesburg, then a charter plane out to the Kruger game reserve (actually Sabi Sabi, a small private reserve outside of the main park) and THATS WHERE I AM NOW! Thats right – while I type this there are leopards and lions and elephantoes walking around outside. Actually that reminds me, why am I wasting my time on a computer (however complimentary it may be) while I can be outside chilling? Ag, I’ll write later, maybe when I’m back. Be prepared for photos too!

gulp.

I got an email yesterday from my olds. It was a forward from the travel agent outlining their flights and crap. I had been waiting for something like this so I would know when next week they were arriving. I thought it was at least the 15th, even closing on the 19th of June, giving my about 10 days to get my shit together. When I looked at the itinery, however, it became abundantly clear that the arrival date had been shifted forward much more than I had expected. THEY ARRIVE TOMORROW.

It’ll be nice to see them, but yowzer thats soon. 20 hours to be precise.

Public Challenge #2

I got my ass into gear and finally updated the thingy of this dilapidated b2 blog and cranked out my first wordpress blog. This is where I appeal to the greater community again. I can easily chuck these entries over onto the new format thingy, but I’m a little stumped as to how to get the layout to convert. Help anyone?

Some of you may want a reward, so I will offer one. My eternal love and gratitude, or for the blokes just the gratitude :P (sorry fellas). So get cracking!

Anyway the camp was great but this keyboard is giving me the shits so I’ll blog tomorrow from school.

extended holidays

This week has been great. LEAF had exams start yesterday, so Monday and Tuesday were called off for study break. I still had to go in, but piss farted away Monday and was excused for Tues because of my massive procrastination. I took becky into the city where we had lunch at a nice little cafe and then trawled through the 2nd hand bookstores on Long Street. I ran out of money but bought the Bourne Identity (which I’ve yet to see) and a massive history of the two world wars. It will help in my teaching of world events for the others. :P

Anyway there was a maths exam yesterday which I invigilated (I think I’ve said it before, not exactly a career prospect of mine anymore) but as a result I get today off for being awesome! CMON! Do you want to know the best bit though? I get tomorrow off as well because I’m taking a group of 8 kids camping near Plettenburg Bay. AND MONDAY! Then theres four days of yuck next week but then exams proper start which means I’m not really needed until the 21st of July!

I love holidays.
