El VTAC y el UAC

During the Spanish exam yesterday, Ms Caple walked in and handed the examiner a piece of paper. Not very interesting. After the exam had finished however, the examiner woman read out what was on it. A memo to the 60 odd Wesley kids who hadn’t put in thier VTAC placement choices for next year.

It was THEN that I freaked out. I had exam anfter exa until 4pm, after which I’d have an hour to get home and lodge them OR MISS OUT ON UNIVERSITY COMPLETELY. Then I calmed down realising that Monday wasn’t the 30th, and only the measley 29th – I still had a day.

Anyway last night I did get organised and apply nice and orderly. VTAC was no problems, I made 12 choices and was pleased. Then I decided to apply in New South Wales as well, and let me tell you the UAC online placement system is god damn awful. Although admittedly leaving it until the last 24 hours isn’t generally a good idea because EVERYONE does it and the strain can bring down the system, the Victorian counterpart worked admirably, whereas the more popular and still shittier NSW system took hours. Anyway here are my choices:

Monday bloody Monday

God I hate Mondays.

Exams started today. Spanish 3 hours in the morning. It actually turned out pretty good. The text handling thingys were reasonably easy and the written part was basically the text handlings turned around. I’m pretty sure I did a lot better than the midyear, and really I don’t think I COULD do any worse.

English paper 1 was in the afternoon after a quick lunch, and was supringly good too. Commentaries have never been my fortè, but this one was reasonable. A poem about the Night Wind, and with plenty of references as far and wide as Dante and Keats, as well as flogging to death the exploration of human impermanence, I think I did alright.

Onwards to the drama essay and Physics Papers 1&2 tomorrow!

Thats it for another 6 months…

Well it wasn’t so exciting…. or holy. For all the hype the grand final attracts, it actually turned out to be quite crap.

Brisbane Lions 20.14.(134) defeated Collingwood Magpies 12.12.(84)

No-one, not even Briso supporters can enjoy such a one sided match. It is to the lion’s credit however – it was a most impressive showing of strength that was lacking in the qualifying final. 3 in a row though? Oh well….

digicamness

Today was a good revision day. Got up at 9am and did a good solid four hours, then went out with mum and bought a new thingymabob to replace the dead one. The asian computer shop guy kept calling it a louter and then would ask why I had a smirk on my face….. ha. Anyway he gave us a decent price for the router we should have gotten a year ago, and I got home and did another three hours before a very late afternoon tea and a bit of camera fiddling with yesterday’s purchase. I think I’ll open a gallery script up soonish, but heres a sneak peak, with the first shot of Pete in some months….

Yawnage

A couple of big announcements for today….

Got out and finally purchased a digicam. daily grinds.

Secondly, and more importantly I’ve got my first hostee… Give Jake a nice big hug… or just a warm welcome… or even a death threat. Either way, drop in, say g’day or whatever. :P

OOOOooh and Australia won the Davis cup tie! 3-2 Over Switzerland. We won the tight doubles rubber yesterday to get a 2-1 advantage, and today Hewitt came back from 2 sets to love, to win in a spectacular match. Poussis didn’t return for his reverse singles match, and so Woodbridge went out to retire after the first set, but we had won 3-1 by then anyway. Yay!

Router death

It looks like our router has taken its final breath, at less than a year old. Fucking computery things. No idea what has broken it, but then I have no idea about things to do with computers most of the time. The washing machine apparently flipped the safety power switch thing a couple of times this morning, so maybe that fucked it…..

In other news, Collingwood beat the crap out of Port in todays preliminary final. bastards.
[edit] Brisbane just walloped Sydney too. That means:

The 2003 Australian Football League
Grand Final, Saturday 27th September

Collingwood Magpies Vs Brisbane Lions

I think I’m beyond caring…. exactly the same two teams as last year, and I’m betting same result. Brisbane’ll make it three in a row. However, regardless of the result, Pete will be unhappy – both teams suck ballsack.

OVERlib

Lots of people have been asking, and a few have lifted the java file off my site directly (which is cool, its just amusing seeing oops.js floating around the place *coughnadineandbrettcough*), so I thought I’d finally do my legal duty and give credit to the lovely overlib script that does that funky hovering shit like OVERlib, and is reasonably easy to install and use if you follow the directions and official site stuff here.

So go forth and prosper, I want to see half a dozen floating image site things by the end of the week :P

Chemistry…. bane of my existence

I have been preparing for the longest, most painful and most bone chilling day at school for some time now. It was today. As you all should know I’m in “holidays” those inverted commas are because they aren’t real holidays per se, as exams are only 46ish days away, with mocks considerably closer (week after next). Anyway, today was a ‘finish off chem’ day, from 9:30am until we finished the course. It took 7 hours.

Thats right. Seven hours of higher level chemistry. 4 girls, the female teacher and myself.

Normally such a position would have any male in ecstacy, but trust me #1 it’s chem, #2 it’s highly crustified and #3 it’s in holidays. Ugh I think I need a few weeks of psychological assesment after my ordeal.
