Up to my neck

I hate this shit. School is so miserable and crap – I have so much work I need another two weeks of holidays to get through it. Meh at least after next week things will ease off a little bit. I bet by then we have plenty more though, so… help.

PETEnews

In a bid for the worldwide best procrastinationist ever, I devised a silly way or two to waste time today. Firstly I reformatted the computer. Secondly I planned on making a stream of PETEnews, but gave up after writing ticker captions. Then to make matters worse, I lost THEM by not saving. Complete waste of a day, not even something funny to at least show I had been doing something. Silly Pete.

Edit I found the ticker things, now I just need some video and I’m set! I think this translates to I’ll invest many more hours in this so called project, but you my friend will NEVER see the end result. Infact neither will I, or anyone else. More useless time wasting! Hooray!

I am the smartest man alive!

Heh I’ve been seeing cool popup imagy things in lotsa sites around the place, so I decided to do some myself. Look down a couple of entries to the Holly Valance one. How cool is that?

It’s s simple sorta embedded Javascript tool thing called overLIB, which I saw and copied from Phona, who inturn copied from Lele, who inturn copied from god-knows-who. The best thing? I did it by myself, completely without help! Well, the manuals for the overLIB tool came in useful, and I refered to the codey stuff in Phona and Lele’s source. Rock on!

It’s also got a use in postit note kinda link things, like this. How useful random sledgings are throughout the site is being investigated by the board of administrators.

ANZAC day

- I know this entry may seem super duper patriotic and yay democracy. It’s not intended.

- I also know I’ve ‘forgotten’ to mention New Zealanders during most of that. Well, its not a lack of respect to New Zealand servicemen, just that they are such an easy country to forget about. *evil grin*

So another ANZAC day passes. What is ANZAC day I hear you ask? The word is actually an acronym for Australian and New Zealand Army Corps. April 25th is the day Australian forces invaded the Gallipoli penninsular in Western Turkey in 1915, a campaign in which thousands of men were killed from both sides, for what was one of the bigger military disasters of the First World War. ANZAC day is a day for national reflection, thanks and remembrance to those who, in the history of the country and armed conflict, made the ultimate sacrifice for the Australian way of living. It’s sorta the ultra-nationalism I usually steer clear of, but the poignancy of the whole ‘anzac spirit’ affects me much like it affects millions of other Australians. This is not a day for glorifying armed conflict, or the success of Australian operations, infact nothing of the sort. The day is simply one for the public to remember those fallen for this country, and because of this is arguably the most ‘holy’ and significant days on the Australian calendar.

So I got up nice and early (4:30am) to catch the special dawn service tram into the Shrine for exactly that – a service for those fallen, at dawn to symbolise the dawn landing at Gallipoli on this day in 1915. It was so amazingly surreal. 20,000 people, congregated in the pre-dawn darkness on the northern face of the shrine in complete and utter silence for over half an hour.

The rest of the day was spent either catching up on my 3 1/2 hours sleep of the previous night, or watching the ANZAC day footy. Essendon trounced Collingwood by 11 goals in a suprise upset.

What the hell?

Flick Scully as buffy?

Rumour has it that Holly Valance (Felicity from neighbours) is set to become the next Buffy in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ next year. Sarah Michelle Gellar refused another contract, for the show’s seventh season, and it is reported Holly had been approached by producers. Dear lord.

king tide and trapezing

so I suppose a rundown of the events of the past week is in order. Well, having foresight this time to use a digital camera, this time its in all pictorial glory, all beit from a mobile phone camera, therefore craptastic quality and rather small/bad. Well fuck you too.

I didn’t have the brains to use a decent camera nor take many photos (5) or any actually away from the house and its surrounds, outside the time window of the last 10 minutes i spent in anglesea. Oh well, on with the show.

Although we had PERFECT weather the whole weekend, my family suprise suprise spent most of it in doors, the slack fucks. Days were constantly blue skies, sunny, warm and slightly breezy. Coupled with king tide and excellent surf this was the Easter to beat all Easters, and yet apart from small strecthes in the morning, the rest of the time my stupid assed family stayed inside, watching TV almost the entire time.

For the six days I spent there, I generally split my time between sleeping, surfing and sailing. Out of the later two surfing definately got a better showing, with about 4 hours a day devoted to rib bashing and head pounding on a piece of fibreglass. Here’s a pic of my baby. I know it doesn’t look so beautiful there, but trust me it is. A 7’2″ mini-mal made by the ever trusty Trigger Brothers, this is my obsession for most of my coastal time.

When the surf was crap, and the wind was good (only really one day, althoguh I sailed for two), time was spent on the other beach (Point Roadnight) trying to get this (bastardly) thing working. Seriosuly more time is needed setting the stupid thing up than you can actually squeeze out of using it (You can probablly see I’m not exactly one for sailing). Trust me though, when this baby gets going, WOAH its awesome. SOOOOO much fun. :P

The other two shots I managed to squeeze out of my measley phone-camera were of the views from our house. The first one is overlooking the ocean from the veranda. It looks a long way away, but the surf beach is really only about 5 minutes walk with a board and wetty. The second is my attempt at a nice sunset photo with a crap camera. The Australian bush at sunset is one of the most magnificent sights ever. Too bad none of you can really see it.

Well, thats a nice intro into the photos. :P Hope you enjoy, they cost a fair bit emailing them from the phone. :P

off again to anglesea

Dad came out of hospital on Tuesday, and so we are FINALLY going to take up residence down at Anglesea again. I don’t know how long I’ll last – at a MAXIMUM of about a week, but probablly more like until just after Easter. I have a lot of work to be doing here. So I guess I’ll have to rat out that surfing flash page and winter (or spring rather) it up a bit…. :P

See you in whenever.
